Melee Oriented WD- Possible with Runes - Page 3

Just because he's a caster doesn't mean he can't have melee spells. What about... Firebats? You have to get into melee range to cast that spell. While he's not exactly a fighter type character, a Witch Doctor built with an arsenal of close to mid range spells could be very interesting and in some ways still similar to a melee fighter. You would still need to make sure he had reasonable health and defense to succeed with such a build, for example.

I wouldn't bother trying to compensate for his lack of martial proficiency with strange equipment and semi-relevant skill choices. Also, it seems to me that we won't be scraping the bottom of the barrel for interesting builds this time around.|||Hey, I never even thought about melee range spells as being melee attacks! Good point. I mentioned before that maybe runes would maybe enhance weapon damage, but your point makes that idea pretty much null. If there are a few spells of the WD with short range, it would totally make a melee build- or at least a short-range build- possible.|||I am under the impression that the Witch Doctor is getting a lot and reworking because of the poll that voted him as the least played. His spirit tree feels nice but his voodoo skills feel too gimmicky with his large amount of animals friends and zombie skills have somewhat uninspired names(Wall of Zombies, Zombie Dog, Zombie Charger) but the actual skills feel fine. He also has too much aoe attack which is probably what the new skill poison dart will change.

To make a melee Witch Doctor out of the current skills would probably use all the skills mentioned Knight_Wolf but that probably wouldn't cut it so hopefully something is being done with the current skills to make it at least a little more viable to go into melee without having summons.|||Honestly, with the latest WD updates. I think a melee WD is now out of the picture. Sure you can equip an axe, but I don't think there will be any melee skills, or even gimped ones like D2's poison dagger and enchant. Also, I'm pretty sure DIII will try to avoid giving all chars, the ability to use skills from other classes. For example, WWsins, or enigma. DIII will try to make each character as distinct from each other as possible.

So sorry to those people looking forward to a melee WD, wizard on the other hand....
