I was just playing my Necro. I love summoner type gameplay, but having 15-25 minions on screen is kind of aesthetically unpleasing.
I think it would be cool if they give you one Mongrel per 4 levels (maxing out at 5). I'm hoping those little guys last through hell with skill point pumping/runes.
As far as the mysterious Gargantuan. My hope is that it is a tank/damage dealer roughly equivalent to a grizzly (as opposed to a useless golem).
Rolling out with a tough pack of 6 minions, chuckin skulls of flame and exploding mongrels left and right? Sounds like good times to me!|||Quote:
Yep it comes down to the power of the minions, I would expect the Gargantuan to be a good summon given its Tier and that its a single summon.
Well i would hold up with it, i hope they have better designers now but you know Necro golems (iron, fire) where high tier too but rather far, far away from being one man army... i still have nightmares when i first time met Andariel with my 7 skeletons and clay golem on first diablo 2 day just to see her blow my all minions in one shot, i ended killing her with lvl 2 teeth while being killed 13 times...

I was thinking about this, and all melee and ranged physical attacks are affected by strength/dexterity, while magic attacks are affected by willpower/vitality. So it would make sense, to me, if the damage of your summons was also affected by your stats in some way to stay in line with everything else.
This would allow you to boost pet damage using traits in a variety of ways...
That is what they have in WoW, for example warlock's demons strength base on warlock stats.|||In my head, I see the gargantuan as something similar to the Gargantuar from Plants vs Zombies. A giant, green humanoid with a huge club for squashing stuff.
I'm thinking it would absorb an enormous amount of damage, but wouldn't be able to deal damage to too many enemies at one time due to how slow it's attack speed would be.|||For me Gargantuan is this huge armoured monster from half-life

*hint hint*
Yeah I'm fantasizing about an xpack class already.

I remember they were hinting at the return of other characters from D2 (especially the Necro) in an expansion for D3.|||I, personally, am hoping for the Druid!
I would love to see all the animals running amuck with a HUGE Hurricane leading the pack. Like some twisted Overrun/Kamahl beast man/woman craving a path through the crowd!
..
I know it would just be the same concept as the WD but would not the Nerco be the same thing aswell?
Plus, I would think most of the D2 guys would die off anyways.
Except that stone giant of a man, the Barb, and the ancient oak which is the Druid. >.>... <.<... eh?|||I would be thrilled if there was a summoner type class. The summoning necro is by far one of my favourite builds, it's just so fun. However, based on the current looks of the witch doctor, I doubt that a necro would be part of an expansion|||I'd like to point out that one of the runes allows Acid Cloud to spawn slimes upon cast. We might not have many baseline summoning skills, but there might be rune effects, such as Acid Cloud's, that allows for more summons.
I personally wouldn't want to play a pure summoner though, especially not given the fact that you can have a fully powerful skill with simply 5 points invested, as opposed to 80 back in D2.
Mass confusion might be something to finally consider for a summoner build.
