Witch Doctor looking to be THE pvp class!

[:1]First of all I can't say how I excited I am about the Witch Doctor (love the flavour, skills, armour, the whole package !)

This just merely an observation, but the Witch Doctor is looking to be one of the better pvp classes, and here's why:

CONTROL! For anyone who's played WOW and used the Arena and is actually good at the arena, you know winning depends on one thing controlling the opponent, and so far the Witch Doctor has quite a few tools for controlling the opponent (relative to other chars shown so far).

  1. Giant Toad - Depending on the duration, this is almost like an upgraded polymorph (WOW mage skill, that makes an opponent out of action for a set amount of time). This is huge, this basically allows your other teammates to nuke down another character, basically giving you a 3 on 2 situation while one is stuck in the frog's stomach and even taking damage. However, I can see some cons to the Giant Frog, it maybe hard to target, since the frog is stationary, and doesn't instantly swallow someone up, giving some time for an opponent to dodge it.

  2. Horrify - AKA psychic scream, see someone running after a health globe? Horrify and take it for yourself! See your mate getting nuked? Horrify and give him a breather. This spell adds incredible utility to the Witch Doctor !

  3. Zombie Bear Charge - to be honest from what I've seen it looks useless, however, that doesn't mean it has the potential to be one of the defunct PVP spam spells for the WD. If the skill is given the KNOCK-BACK property this will be a PVP staple, no doubt! Right now it looks like it just simply deals damage that goes past the enemy (basically a wider bone spear), now if given the knock-back property as well, this allows it not only to be an excellent pvp spell, but also in a pve situation as well, allowing the WD to kite melee enemies in both scenarios and even throw off the aim of ranged chars. Plus it makes sense, that a horde of charging zombie bears is bound to knock you back.

And that concludes my somewhat baseless speculation/analysis as to why the Witch Doctor will end up being the Kings of PVP . Now the other classes will undoubtedly get some powerful control spells and abilities, however, I do doubt they will be as proficient or as numerous as the ones the Witch Doctor will have!|||I have to disagree. I think he will make a great team player, but on a 1v1, i feel that he would straight up get rushed. I haven't seen any melee from this character or much protection if any. How is he going to defend himself if a Barb or Monk come up to him? There is no more teleport...

He is going to be a sick character though |||Are you kidding? The WD has plenty of protective abilities.

Horrify wards off all melee attackers, including other players (as shown by video footage).

Wall of Zombies can protect him from direct frontal assaults, and can block off hallways.

Spirit Walk allows the WD to become incorporeal and to jet away.

And from their descriptions, Grasp of the Dead and Death Pact will be good at immobilizing enemies and increasing survival time.

Plus the WD's Mongrel's and other pets are great tanks. Dude's covered.|||There is no such thing as a tank in PvP. Players will attack who they want to attack, when they want to. If they've got a crap load of WD pets on them, and they want to see the WD dead, they will ignore the pets and go straight for the WD.|||Quote:

Really, it makes other players run away? I wonder if that will last to the completed game?|||They have similar mechanics in WoW. It works really nicely. Provided you're the one casting it. I suspect if it does last to release, it (along with other CC type abilities) will suffer diminishing returns in PvP.|||I think the WD will be a strong PVP class, but I'm not sure they'll be at the top of the heap.

PVP is about 2 things. Control and burst. The WD definitely has some control (horrify, confusion) but they are likely going to be on a very, very short duration in PVP and there will be counters. As for burst...this is suspect. They have the mongrels which can explode for a good amount of damage, but they are relatively easy to escape, and they take time (and health) to re-summon.

I think the WD is definitely a power-house, but he/she needs support. Unlike the wizard who seems to be, at first blush, a ruthless killing machine.|||I agree with the OP, but not for any of the reasons he said.

1) Horrify is a very small radius from the WD. It's not a curse you can cast on someone across the way. (Grasp of the Dead is, however.)

2) Mega toad can't eat bosses and it isn't going to eat other players. It might tongue lash them for big dmg, but it's stationary and seems to have a slow attack speed. If there's anything you do not want to be in PvP, it's stationary. Standing behind your toad would open you up to massive bad artillery things from Wizards or DHs.

3) Zombie bears don't do that much dmg and they're not that fast. Great on stupid, stationary monsters. Not so much in PvP.

That said, the WD's biggest dmg skill in the Blizzcon Arena was sacrifice. Which was kind of slow to activate and of limited range, but if someone tried to tank on the WD and he had dogs in the vicinity, that someone would regret it. Not to mention GotD to slow the attacker to a crawl and Horrify to make them run away. Also, Spirit Walk was the best escape skill any char had in the demo. The WD can go a long way while invisible for 3 seconds.
