Why the Witch Doctor? - Page 3

[:1]Very nicely put Thrakhath! That makes me very excited to play the Witch Doctor! My only concern is that they add a "POW"-type spell, a la the Wizard's Meteor.|||In a way Witch Doctor summs up what I loved about Affiliction Warlocks in WoW. Minion(s) and dots everywhere!|||I think the creators decided that they really really liked DotA / HoN, and thus the Witch Doctor was born. That and a 50 summon necro was, and still is, rather silly.|||I like spellcasters. A WD-type caster has a unique style of play that is based on control rather than direct damage, and that can be really fun.|||Quote:

I really doubt DotA had anything to do with the class. In fact, it's quite opposite, as in "the creators of DotA / HoN liked Diablo 2 so thus they made the map".|||Quote:

Bah, in earlier patches each skillpoint gave you a skeleton. People have made Necros with more than 90 minions. It was glorious!|||Quote:

Up until the point you where you wanted to deliver alkor the lam esen tome.|||Originally I decided to go with WD as a necro replacement, but after going through the backstory and reading the skill descriptions more, it just seems like a really fun character to use.|||Quote:

Poor level design is no reason to give up on a glorious concept!|||Definitely going to be the first character I roll.

The Witch doctor's theme was what first caught my eye. I'm not sure when it started but for a few years now I've had a high interest in any sort of alchemist/shaman type character. He's also got a great morbidity about him that doesn't come across as cliche like the DH. I'm sure the taste I developed for psychotropic substances has some role in my enthusiasm for the crazy old man.

WD gameplay looks like some pretty fantastic chaos. Jungle monsters and zombies charging, crawling, and raining all over the screen with a very nice selection of crowd control and Dot spells should make for some very interesting and graphically appealing scenes.

The witch doctor doesn't fit into clear RPG archetypes like the other characters do. He's got a very unique style. Dropping off-the-wall AoEs and controlling the battlefield with spells like confusion and zombie wall just sounds way too cool.
